Sea Level Rise in New Jersey: Causes, Effects and a Call to Action

Professor Norbert Psuty, Rutgers University and a former Trustee of the Society, will deliver a presentation on th impacts of Sea Level Rise on coastal Monmouth County. Dr. Psuty's presentation will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Jan Dash, Ph.D. The panel includes Prof. Patrick Hossay, Richard Stockton College; Prof. Jon Miller, Stevens Institute; William Shadel, Director of Habitat Restoration, American Littoral Society. In addition, Randall Solomon, Co-director of Sustainable Jersey, will introduce Sustainable Jersey’s new Climate Adaptation point-scoring actions for communities.

The Society has been deeply involved in issues regarding climate change and sea level rise. We have been advocating at the state and national level for measures that ensure that coastal wildlife and habitat, especially wetlands, are included in adaptation strategies. Because New Jersey is particularly vulnerable to sea level rise,in 2008 we commissioned a study from Rutgers University to map the impacts. Download Report

This event is presented by Monmouth County Cool Cities Partnership (MCCCP) and is co-sponsored by the American Littoral Society, Brookdale Community College, Clean Ocean Action, Monmouth County Environmental Council and New Jersey Environmental Federation.
