What better way to welcome the summer heat than with a fantastic day on the water? At the end of June, our American Littoral Society team had an absolute blast teaming up with two awesome Bridgeton City nonprofits, United Advocacy Group (UAG) and Southeast Gateway Community Action Partnership for a kayaking adventure on Sunset Lake. We were joined by a wonderful mix of folks from UAG’s "Stronger Families" program and other Bridgeton residents – we even had a few people who just came for a swim but were thrilled to find out they could join our free kayaking excursion! After a quick, easy lesson for our first-time paddlers, everyone pushed off at their own pace. Some folks chose to practice their paddling skills close to shore, while others were adventurous and explored all the way across the lake and down a tributary into the cool forest. Everyone got to spot and learn about local wildlife, like majestic osprey soaring overhead and turtles enjoying the sun – talk about a cool nature show!
Connecting people to their local aquatic environment so they can appreciate and protect these shared resources is a huge part of what we do at the Littoral Society, and these kayak trips are definitely one of the most fun ways to make that happen. Sunset Lake truly is a gem for paddling, with the convenient La Sirena Canoe and Kayak Rental right there. If you missed out on this round of fun, don't worry! We're already planning another kayak trip for the end of the summer, so keep your eyes on our social media or events calendar for upcoming announcements. This fantastic, free program was made possible by a generous grant from the Regional Foundation, awarded to Southeast Gateway Community Action Partnership in partnership with the Littoral Society. We can't wait to paddle with you again soon! Comments are closed.
