Homeschool Family Fun Day

​🌊 3rd Annual Homeschool Family Fun Day at Sandy Hook 

Thursday, May 14th, 2026
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Meet at Lot C on Sandy Hook, Gateway National Recreation Area

​​$20 per student participant
Parents/Guardians are free
1:5 adult to student ratio recommended

​Join the American Littoral Society for a day of coastal exploration and hands-on learning at Sandy Hook! Homeschool students ages 5 and up will connect with other families while discovering Sandy Hook’s unique marine environment.

  • Seine Fishing – Catch, observe, and release local marine life
  • Scavenger Hunt – Can you spot the signs of spring along the shore? 
  • Up-Close Encounters – Meet fish, horseshoe crabs, mollusks, macroinvertebrates, and more

An interactive presentation on macroinvertebrates will be led by Richard Robinson, NJ Watershed Ambassador (Watershed Area #12), exploring what these tiny organisms reveal about water quality.  🪲🐛

⏰ Check-in: Begins at 9:45 AM
🥪 Lunch Break: Bring your own lunch — we’ll take a 30-minute break around 12:30 PM
🌊 Dress to Get Wet!
