Moth Night 2025

🦋🌙Celebrate National Moth Week with the Littoral Society!
Friday, July 25, 2025
8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Meet at the Fishing Beach
(End of Area F Road)

Gateway National Recreation Area
Sandy Hook Unit
Highlands, NJ
$25 per participant

Join us for a unique evening exploring the fascinating world of moths, nature’s incredible nocturnal pollinators.

We’ll be joined by Blaine Rothauser, Senior Ecologist at GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc., for a hands-on, interactive session where you’ll observe moths up close and learn about their critical role in the environment. Blaine will guide us through the process of identifying different species and share how we can support local moth populations right here in New Jersey.
Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, this session offers something for everyone. There will be plenty of time for questions and personal discoveries throughout the evening.

What to bring:
  • A headlamp or flashlight
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • A camera or smartphone for close-up photography

You’ll be amazed by the unique and stunning features of these often-overlooked insects.
