About Serena

Serena Celestino is the Coordinator of the Shuck It, Don’t Chuck It! Program, which is part of Operation Oyster.

Prior to working with the American Littoral Society, Serena worked with organizations such as The Nature Conservancy of NJ, Project Terrapin, and The Judith River Dinosaur Institute.

She started her science career in paleontology, studying the ecology of Jurassic-age dinosaurs and clams in Montana. However, after working in New Jersey in diamondback terrapin conservation and salt marsh restoration, she changed her focus to coastal conservation ecology. Serena believes environmental education is a crucial aspect of any conservation effort.

Serena worked as a restaurant manager and pizza chef while earning her undergraduate degrees. When she isn’t working, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, and creating realism artwork. She has two dogs and a blue chameleon.
