We're getting ready for our next reef project and could use your help!
In October, we will hold a Shell-A-Bration at Thompsons Beach in Delmont, NJ. But in order to be ready for that event, we need to prepare 3,000 shell bags. You can register to lend a hand through the dates on the right. We are planning a series of bagging events, with four scheduled to take place in Port Norris, NJ. Once the epicenter of New Jersey's oyster industry (known then as "Oyster Capital of the World"), Port Norris still offers a glimpse into the rich maritime and agricultural history of the Delaware Bayshore. Based just outside the town is the Bayshore Center at Bivalve, which includes the Delaware Bay Museum, restored shed and wharves, the A.J. Meerwald (NJ's official tall ship) which has public sails as well as educational programs, the Oyster Cracker Cafe and a wetlands trail. There is also a nearby Revolutionary War battlefield; historic East Point Lighthouse in Heislerville; the Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center in Millville, with its American Museum of Glass; and Belleplain State Forest in Woodbine, NJ. So, come just to volunteer or stay for the day and get a glimpse of the remote beaches, nearly forgotten oyster towns, and other attractions unique to this part of New Jersey! |
