About Alex

Alexandra joined the Northeast Chapter of the American Littoral Society in 2017 as a youth coordinator for their Jamaica Bay Restoration Corps Program.

Prior to working in the Jamaica Bay office, she spent most of her time just across the water conducting field work as a volunteer coordinator alongside researchers currently studying the ecology of nesting Diamondback Terrapins in Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Working with the Littoral Society has allowed her to combine her passion for turtles, educating people about the marine environment and directly working on restoration projects throughout Jamaica Bay, which in the long-run will help the survival of Diamondback Terrapins in NYC.

When not getting stuck in the muck out on Jamaica Bay marshes, she helps coordinate between the Chapter and volunteer groups, partner organizations and community members who are interested in collaborating on Chapter programs and restoration events. In addition, she facilitates scientific research collaborations between the Chapter and local research partners.

She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY with her two adopted turtles George & Paco."
