About Alex

Alexandra joined the Northeast Chapter of the American Littoral Society in 2017 as a Youth Coordinator for the Jamaica Bay Restoration Corps Program.  Presently, she holds the position of Jamaica Bay Program Director.

Alexandra has deep ties to Jamaica Bay Marshlands. She spent many summers just across the water from the Northeast Chapter as a volunteer and field operations coordinator alongside researchers conducting a 20-year-long study on the ecology of nesting Diamondback Terrapins in Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge (NYC’s only easily observable population of resident turtles).

Joining the Littoral Society has allowed her to work in the very heart of Jamaica Bay, while combining her passion for turtles, marine science, conservation and public education.
When she’s not getting stuck in the muck on Jamaica Bay marshes, Alex coordinates community partnerships and activities for the Northeast Chapter, serving the communities in and around Jamaica Bay.

She received her B.A. in Biology from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida and has co-authored a number of peer-reviewed academic papers and articles on all things Diamondback Terrapin. She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY with her adopted turtle family of three.
