We are restoring ecologically healthy and resilient coastal habitats along the Atlantic Ocean and within the Delaware Bay region. Our projects include beach and dune restoration, marsh restoration, oyster reefs, and monitoring.
The long history of use and misuse along New Jersey’s coast demands that we seek to restore habitats where they are impaired. Often, creative approaches can enhance both the qualities at the site itself, as well as contributing to overall ecosystem health. Our success in sustaining the diversity of marine resources along the coast is dependent on our ability to undertake such work.
We identify opportunities for coastal habitat restoration through research and local input. We leverage and capitalize on ongoing public and private actions within the coastal zone, such as dredging projects and public shoreline developments, to advance restoration efforts. From a policy perspective, we seek to insure that existing environmental regulatory and management programs require and promote restoration actions where appropriate.

Cooks BeachIn 2013, we cleared the beach of rubble and debris left behind and exposed by Superstorm Sandy. Following the clean up, we trucked in sand from local sand mines and added it to the beach with a grade and depth suitable for horseshoe crab spawning and migratory shorebird foraging. The following year we returned to the beach to place additional sand.
