Cape Ann Whale Watch Weekend

August 7-10, 2025

Join us for a memorable late-summer getaway to Cape Ann, MA (map) — an ideal destination for nature lovers. Spend three nights in the charming, historic fishing town of Gloucester, where rocky coastlines, pristine beaches, and rich wildlife await. Led by Littoral Society naturalist Don Riepe, this adventure includes a breathtaking whale watch, an evening cruise along the peaceful Essex River, canoeing on the scenic Ipswich River, and a guided coastal walk at Halibut Point State Park. Late summer brings ideal weather, warm ocean waters, and the start of the bird migration season—perfect for those who love being immersed in nature.

Trip cost includes lodging, all excursions, and a classic New England lobster/seafood dinner. We will stay at the Captain’s Lodge Motel in Gloucester, MA, a charming, family-owned property just minutes from Good Harbor Beach and Gloucester’s historic harbor. Rooms are traditionally styled and include free Wi-Fi and AC. Guests can enjoy an outdoor pool, tennis court, and peaceful garden setting on a spacious four-acre site. Its prime location makes it a perfect base for exploring Cape Ann’s beaches, hiking trails, and coastal towns.

Packages:
  • $795 for a double occupancy
  • $795 + $120 for a single supplement
  • $795 + $120 for a single supplement + $180 for van carpool (5 spots open)
  • $795 + $180 for van carpool (5 spots open)

A van will depart midtown Manhattan for an additional $180. Please note that space is limited, and we can only accommodate 5 spots for the van. The van will depart at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday from West 46th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues in Manhattan. If you book the van, please email [email protected] to confirm your spot. If you will be driving on your own to join us, please plan to arrive at the Captain’s Lodge around 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 7.

This is a unique chance to experience Cape Ann’s natural beauty—sunrises over the Atlantic, serene trails, coastal wildlife, and cool sea breezes—all with the expert guidance and good humor of our staff. You can pay online through the link above or reserve your spot by sending full payment to: American Littoral Society, 18 Hartshorne Drive, Highlands, NJ 07732. For credit card payments, call or email Ryan at (732) 291-0055 (M/W/F, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.) or [email protected].
