Chincoteague/Assateague Spring Weekend 2023

Join American Littoral Society naturalists Don Riepe, Alexandra Kanonik, and Lindsay McNamara for a Spring wildlife bonanza weekend along the Delmarva coast. Participants are likely to see nesting Bald Eagles, Osprey, migrating raptors, shorebirds, White and Glossy Ibis, Great Blue, Little Blue, and Tricolored herons, egrets, Marbled Godwits, Clapper Rails, wild ponies with young of year, Delmarva fox squirrels, Sika Deer, Red Fox, dolphins, and maybe an otter or two.

Cost is $695 person (double occupancy), $150 single supplement and includes three nights lodging at the lovely Refuge Inn, a seafood welcome dinner, 2-hour boat tour of island, 2-hour Safari bus tour of backwater marshes (if available), evening programs and star watch, plus three guided hikes at Chincoteague Refuge and Assateague National Seashore. On the way home we’ll stop at Bombay Hook Refuge to look for Avocets, eagles, harriers, Black-necked Stilts, and other wildlife.

The Inn has an indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, exercise room, conference room and sun/star observation deck. Breakfasts at Inn included in price. Chincoteague has great crab cakes, local oysters, fresh seafood, and the famous bumbleberry pie. Shared van rental from Manhattan $150.
