About Lisa

Lisa Scheppke was a paralegal when she first became a Littoral Society member and volunteer and was unaware of the rich diversity of wildlife that existed right in her own neighborhood of Queens, NY. Participating in the Society’s field trips opened up a whole new world for her and she soon became an amateur naturalist and avid birder.

Her experiences as a volunteer fostered a strong passion for taking individual actions that can help care for our beaches, oceans and natural areas. When not out birding, she can be found on the trails and beaches documenting and reporting the active presence of debris that may be negatively impacting wildlife and the environs of Jamaica Bay.

Lisa currently holds the position of Conservation Coordinator for the Northeast Chapter. She works on a partnership program focused on ways to educate the community about and remove/repurpose derelict or discarded fishing gear, such as monofilament fishing line, because of the unintended harm it can pose to wildlife.
