Click "Bayscape for Barnegat Bay" for a brochure on different native plant gardens you can implement that can be beneficial for a variety of birds, pollinators, and New Jerseys ecosystem as a whole.
Using native plants in gardening is an excellent way to save time and money, welcome birds and butterflies, and improve water quality. Unlike foreign plants, native plants are adapted to their place of origin, and in turn, require little to no maintenance. Additionally, unlike foreign plants, native plants are beneficial to species in the surrounding area who can use them for food and shelter. When these native plants are used in a garden system, they help to reduce flooding and act to remove harmful chemicals and excess nutrients from stormwater runoff before it infiltrates into the ground or makes its way to a stream or river.
