Job Description
The program coordinator of the Shuck It, Don’t Chuck It Program will be responsible for and expected to assist in coordinating the shell recycling program by growing the participation, collecting data, transporting recycled shell, forming relationships, speaking on behalf of the program/society at outreach and educational events and working with our associated partners.
This is a temporary position funded until January 2024. Salary is $38,000.
The program coordinator will report to the Education Director for duties and responsibilities for the Shuck It, Don’t Chuck It Program.

Key responsibilities & duties
- Picking up recycled shell from local participating restaurants, transporting the shell to designated drop off locations, cleaning shell buckets and other materials and returning buckets to restaurants.
- Managing program volunteers.
- Creating relationships with restaurant owners/managers/chefs to further the recycling program
- Represents the Society at educational events, lunch and learns, festivals, and various outreach events.
- Help facilitate and organize workshop/event materials including printing handouts, bagging shell, maintaining an inventory of necessary materials, and cleaning up after events.
- Maintains recorded data of collected shell.
- Assists Education Director in communication with restaurants, partner organizations and businesses related to the Shuck It, Don’t Chuck It Program.
- Ability to work with a team and perform a wide variety of tasks.
- Commitment to and passion for inclusive public and community participation in shell recycling and restoration education.
- Assist with social media presence of the program by taking photos of shell pickup, at events, and posting on our various social media outlets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- College Degree (Associates or Bachelors) or High School Degree and associated professional experience
- Must contain a valid driver’s license.
- Enthusiasm for coastal environmental conservation
- Public speaking skills
- Ability and passion for working with shellfish
- Ability to carry up to 50lbs.
