Thursday, June 6
7 - 10 pm Volunteers will be trained and learn about the biology and importance of horseshoe crabs prior to tagging live crabs. Volunteers should dress for the weather, time of day, and beach conditions - sunscreen, bug spray, protective footwear, rain gear, and a flashlight or headlamp may all be useful. All tagging materials will be supplied. Tagging and monitoring crabs helps track their population within Delaware Bay and helps inform management decisions for this important species. The spawning season of the Horseshoe Crab is the only time they come ashore and the season is just a few short weeks in May and June. Data from the work is provided to the US Fish and Wildlife Service. For more information contact Trevor Metz at [email protected] Can't attend but want to become a member?
