From 2023 through the 2024 Coastal Cleanup season, 1,469 volunteers cleaned up and documented 12,366.86 pounds of trash found along 104.19 miles of shoreline along New York's Long Island Sound.

The Long Island Sound is a special place. Its brackish water estuaries mingle with freshwater rivers to support a bustling undersea metropolis of more than 1,200+ invertebrates, 170+ fish species, and countless migratory birds that utilize its marshlands, coastal maritime forests, beaches, waterways and dune systems every year. The Sound is a living water purifier and nursery: wetlands and eelgrass beds help filter pollutants, protect shorelines, and give fish and shellfish a safe place to grow, and it is a place where people come to enjoy the coast. We hope that if you live on the Sound or are planning a visit this year, we encourage you to participate in a local volunteer cleanup at a beach near you to continue to support the vital natural resources of the Sound.
