ACTION ALERT: Urge NJ Officials to Invest Amercican Rescue Plan Funds to Secure Clean Water6/5/2023
Clean water matters to all New Jersey families. Antiquated combined sewer overflows (CSOs) discharge billions of gallons of untreated sewage into our Delaware, Hudson and other rivers. Climate change and contamination from newly “emerging contaminants” such as PFAs, and lead pipes threaten the health of New Jersey families. Governor Murphy committed to investing a portion of New Jersey’s remaining American Rescue Plan funding in water infrastructure in his budget address. We're urging you to help us convince the Legislature to invest another $700 million in water infrastructure. Use this link to find your NJ state representative, go to their profile page, then click “Contact Your Legislator” and tell them to invest in securing clean water. Making this investment will create over 13,000 jobs statewide and create an additional $2.9 billion additional economic benefits. Most importantly, an additional $700 million would make a truly transformative impact by protecting the health of all New Jersey families.
If New Jersey doesn’t make additional commitments to clean water, the cost of crucial upgrades will fall on the backs of ratepayers, while many families are struggling with rising costs. Allocating remaining American Rescue Plan funds will not cost New Jersey residents an extra dime. Clean water is a win for the health of our families, jobs and our state economy. Please urge your state officials to make an additional investment of $700 million in cleaning up CSOs and securing clean water.
