Additional Information for the Bus for Big Blue Ride to the M4O

6/8/2018

We are truly excited to see you all bright and early tomorrow morning!  We just wanted to send one more personal note to everyone. Things to remember:
  1. Parking. We’ve confirmed the Jersey transit authority that you CAN leave your cars in the park and ride/commuter pool parking areas at BOTH pick-op spots.
  2. Bring sunscreen and rain jackets. Per usual, DC weather is erratic. Right now, it shows rain in the forecast for late afternoon -  post march. This is a rain or shine event. And luckily the Mall has a host of museums nearby if there is some rain!
  3. The Bus. There will be WiFi and outlets on the bus. There is also a bathroom on each bus.
  4. You can bring and leave things on the bus. However, we will not have access to the buses during the day as the buses move on to a staging area. BRING extra food and water for the ride home.
  5. Staff will always be available. Staff from the Society, COA, and Surfrider will be both on the bus AND waiting upon arrival to help get folks to the March. We will confirm the 3:45pm meet-up spot at that time and give everyone a sheet with phone numbers. The buses will drop everyone off on Constitution Ave. between 15th-17th (a mere block from where everyone will gather with the giant inflatable blue whale at the corner of Constitution Ave and 17th Street.
  6. Second pick-up. If you haven’t let us know that you’ll be at the second pick up stop at the Atlantic Service Area on the Parkway, please just reply to this email.
  7. Signs and costumes are welcome and encouraged!
  8. Download these awesome istickers and snapchat filter created JUST for the March by our friends at BareTree Media (click this link to get directions to download)
  9. We do have seats left. If anyone you know is interested, have them email or call me directly. Sarah@littoralsociety.org or 503.267.9577

MARCH SCHEDULE:
11 AM - Gather at the NW corner of the Washington Monument Grounds by 17th St. & Constitution Ave.
11:30-Noon Special guest musician performance.
NOON - March past the White House and around Lafayette Square before returning to staging area (60-90 minute walk or approximately 1.5 mile loop).  Wear comfortable walking shoes, blue clothing (Wear Blue for the Ocean), a shade cap, ocean-safe sunblock and carry a canteen - this will be a plastic free march.
1:30 - 3:30 PM - Main Stage - Join with Dr. Sylvia Earle, Philippe and Ashlan Cousteau, Carl Safina, Danni Washington and many other ocean and water champions including artists and musicians to celebrate our blue world and say NO to Offshore Drilling, NO to Plastic pollution NO to rising seas and climate disasters and YES to job-generating renewable energy, YES to corporate accountability to reduce waste and YES to living protective shorelines a healthy ocean and clean water for all!

Looking forward to meeting you in DC!
