This year you can let people know that you started 2024 in the best possible way: by getting a beanie to signify your participation in the Littoral Society's annual New Year's Day walks.
These navy blue knit hats commemorate the walks we've been doing on Sandy Hook, NJ and Breezy Point, NY for the past 48 years. They will be available for purchase at the walks, which will start at 11 a.m. on January 1.
The walks are free and suitable for anyone able to walk a few miles, with part of that distance being on sandy beaches. Leashed dogs are welcome. Dress for the weather and bring your own water.
You can also show you Care for the Coast by purchasing Littoral Society hoodies, t-shirts, and beach bags from our Bonfire store. They're available in a number of styles, colors and sizes in super-soft fabric, including our brand new "Littoral Defined 2.0" hoodie with a full-length front zipper.
Please RSVP if you plan to attend either of the walks so that we know how many people to anticipate.
Participants in the New York walk will meet at 11 a.m. at The Little Church, just inside Fort Tilden's 169th Street Entrance, and walk to the end of Breezy Point (about three miles). Register on our website.
The Sandy Hook walk will meet at 11 a.m. outside Littoral Society Headquarters in the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area (GPS: 18 Hartshorne Drive, Highlands, NJ). We will walk to the northern tip of Sandy Hook (just under 3 miles). Register on our website.
