The Littoral Society would like to welcome our new Coastal Education Interns, Stella and Samantha. Our Education Interns will be helping deliver educational programs to people of all ages on Sandy Hook. They’ll be getting their feet wet in the field of environmental education during our Close Encounters field trips, public nature walks, and special events all summer.

Please say “Hello” when you see them at Sandy Hook!

Stella Mueller Bio
I am so excited to be a summer intern with the American Littoral Society! I just graduated from the University of Rhode Island (URI) with a double major in Conservation Biology and Journalism.
PictureOur coastal interns help identify some of the catch from a recent seining session. L to R: Samantha Hemming, Education Coordinator Audrey Litto, and Stella Mueller.
This fall, I will be going back to URI to earn my Masters in Environmental Communication and hope to begin my career next year in environmental education.

This internship not only allows me to be outside every day, but I also get the opportunity to share my passion for the environment with people who visit the Littoral Society while gaining knowledge to share with others about the amazing ecosystem surrounding coastal New Jersey. This is an amazing opportunity and I am looking forward to a great summer!

Samantha Hemming Bio
I have a B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University. Since graduating I have been assisting a researcher from the International Whaling Commission with a review paper concerned with the direct and indirect impacts of climate change on cetaceans.

I'm thrilled to join the American Littoral Society as an intern because I have a deep, personal passion for wildlife conservation. I look forward to sharing my appreciation for our coastal ecosystem and inspiring curiosity in the kids on our field trips. I'm especially excited about participating in the whale-watching tours and contributing to data collection efforts.

Before this internship, I had only visited Sandy Hook once, so I am eager to spend time on the Hook this summer expanding my arsenal of ecology fun facts and working alongside like-minded individuals who are dedicated to preserving our coastal environment.
