Volunteer registration is now open for the 2017 Sandy Hook Student & Family Bioblitz. Sign up here to take part in this annual event. The BioBlitz will take place within Gateway National Recreation Area's Sandy Hook Unit on September 29, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to students of all ages and their family members. Volunteers can take part in field studies focused on such things as marine plants and birds, or work at base camp helping with registration, food preparation, GIS and photography. Volunteers can sign up to participate in more than one survey.
The BioBlitz itself is a biological inventory that gives volunteers an opportunity to work alongside scientists and expert naturalists to find and identify as many species as possible over a short time period. It is an opportunity to increase awareness of the diversity of organisms that exist within Sandy Hook. T-shirts, food, a rest area, and plenty of coffee and water will be provided. Join the fun and come explore Sandy Hook with Scientists/Expert Naturalists. For additional information, contact Lindsay Weil (Lindsay@littoralsociety.org). The event is being sponsored by the OceanFirst Foundation.
