Spring is the season of growth and renewal, so it's the perfect time to share the latest updates from our "Shuck It, Don't Chuck It!" shell recycling initiative. Renewing Pt. Pleasant Beach Drop-off Point In 2023 we set up a shell recycling drop-off site in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. But due to unforeseen circumstances, the location had to be temporarily relocated. However, thanks to support from our friends in both the Wall and Point Pleasant environmental committees, we are thrilled that talks are underway to reinstate the drop-off point. Keep your eyes on the Littoral Society website and social media for updates! Growing Volunteer Opportunities To fuel the growth of our shell recycling program and expand our impact, we have been working to recruit more volunteers. To kick off this initiative, a volunteer meet and greet was held Wednesday, March 6 to introduce our new volunteers to the Littoral Society's mission, work and staff, as well as share in more detail about our volunteer opportunities.
Don't worry if you missed, Please join us online for an evening of virtual mixing and mingling as we introduce our new volunteers to our organization's mission and work, staff, and share in more detail about our volunteer opportunities. If you were unable to attend but still want to get involved, don't hesitate to contact our Program Coordinator Kyle Patterson at [email protected]. Sip 'N Shucks Continue Plans for the future also include more Sip 'N Shuck events, where we get to chat with participants about oysters while they learn to shuck them with the help of our partners at the Barnegat Oyster Collective. Our most recent was held on leap day in February at Bahrs Landing in Highlands, NJ. Attendees sipped champagne and immersed themselves in hands-on learning experiences, while also fostering a deeper connection with the importance of oyster recycling and coastal conservation. Keep your eye on our calendar of events and social media channels for the next Sip 'N Shuck. Many thanks to those who have attended these events and all of the volunteers who contribute to the success of the "Shuck It, Don't Chuck It!" program. Your support and participation play a vital role in our efforts to promote sustainable practices, preserve our coastal ecosystems, and continue toward our goal of re-oystering New Jersey's bays and estuaries.
