Please join us for the 3rd Annual Veterans Day on the Bay celebration, on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. on Thompsons Beach. The event is hosted by the American Littoral Society and Conserve Wildlife Foundation. This Veterans Day event will dedicate the reef built off Thompsons Beach in April, 2017 at the 3rd Annual Shell-A-Bration, during which 70 volunteers, aided by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, turned a mountain of shell bags into an intertidal reef. The 1st Annual Veterans Day on the Bay took place on November 11, 2015 at South Reeds Beach. The reef was dedicated to all veterans and highlighted veteran involvement in the effort to restore New Jersey’s Delaware Bayshore, which had been devasted by Superstorm Sandy. Event attendees honored their own military veterans by inscribing that special person's name on a shell and placing that shell on “Veterans Reef.”
Once again we intend to show our appreciation and mark the progress we’ve made by dedicating another reef to a specific military branch. The 3rd Annual Veterans Day on the Bay, which will feature:
Those who attend will have the opportunity to help study the wildlife living in this new reef with hands-on, interactive marine science activities like seining and species identification. The highlight of the event will be the dedication of Thompsons Beach oyster reef to our military veterans. Attendees are invited to honor the veterans they hold dear by inscribing that special person’s name on a shell and placing that shell on the reef during a dedication ceremony. Veterans Day on the Bay is rain or shine. The celebration will be a picnic-style event, so please bring blankets and chairs. Join us at Thompsons Beach, 79 Thompsons Beach Road, Delmont, NJ. Thompson's Beach Road is off Glade Road (Local Rt. 616) near its intersection with Main Street in Heislerville, NJ. RSVP appreciated to Quinn Whitesall, [email protected].
